The family of the late Teoh Beng Hock on Wednesday expressed gratitude to the government for having granted its request for the use of his surname for the son born to Beng Hock's fiancee Soh Cher Wei.
Beng Hock's elder sister Lee Lan, 30, said the family was overjoyed when informed by the National Registration Department in Putrajaya that Beng Hock would be named as the father in the child's birth certificate.
Beng Hock, who was the political aide to a Selangor state executive councillor, was found dead at the fifth floor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam on July 16 last year after he had given evidence as a witness to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over alleged misuse of funds by several Selangor elected representatives.
Soh, who is at her family home in Batu Pahat, Johor, gave birth to the 2.9-kg boy at the Pantai Hospital in Batu Pahat on Feb 22.
Lee Lan said the family had decided to name the child Teoh Er Jia.
